Self-depreciating and utterly ridiculous, Seth Rogen and his pals produce perhaps the most rib-shatteringly funny film of the year so far
This Is The End sees an all-star cast, including the likes of James Franco, Jonah Hill and Danny McBride (a particular standout) portraying fictional versions of themselves during the apocalypse. The group find themselves locked within James Franco’s house, struggling to survive. Sound rubbish to you? Well it’s not. It’s actually incredibly funny and very quotable too.
The biggest laughs are to be had in seeing the cast ripping the living daylights out of their Hollywood lifestyles, each other and most importantly, themselves. Despite these exaggerated parodies of their own personalities being mostly unlikable, they are tremendously funny. Ludicrous situation after ludicrous situation, This Is The End is certainly not shy. It’s relentless, brash and overflowing with in-your-face penis jokes. Quirky and subtle comedy this is not.
There aren’t enough fingers on my hands to count how many classic cameos there are to be seen. Michael Cera and Emma Watson are brilliant, but I won’t spoil any of the others here for you. You will have to see the rest for yourself.
For a film with a premise such as this, it could have so easily fallen flat on its face. But thankfully, it hasn’t. The cast seem to be good friends in real life, and their chemistry on-screen produces some truly hilarious results. From start to finish, This Is The End is outrageous and very, very funny.
