Sweat was ejaculating out of every pore at The Cluny last night (October 3) as Drenge were on monstrous form in Newcastle. With their fuzzy, biting guitar riffs stabbing and gnawing throughout the set, Drenge are one of the most feral and animalistic bands you will see. And they’re loud as fuck too. If you like your rock music as sinister and menacing as possible – you are going to love Drenge.
Consisting of two brothers from Derbyshire, the duo don’t enlist the help of a bass guitarist. It’s just the two of them up there alone, Eoin Loveless on guitar/vocals and younger brother Rory on drums – tearing the absolute shit out of everything.
Rather fittingly, the lighting in The Cluny bathes Drenge in blood red – the band have a violent, unhinged edge to their sound and presence. For instance, Eoin would regularly turn around and stare at his younger brother with an unsettling intensity, ignoring the crowd, whilst just drilling away at his guitar. It was thrilling to watch.
With their thundering drums pounding into your cranium, Drenge are a band any Rock fan should seek out. And please – go see them live.
